Court of Justice holds that domestic courts are to review the independence of the new National Council of the Judiciary and the Disciplinary Chamber

The Supreme Court press service has just released an English translation of two rulings dealing with this issue: one by the Labour Law and Social Security Chamber, which requested the ECJ, and the new Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber, to which a question of law was posed by a 3-judge panel of this body.

Discrepancies in the case law of the top court present in these judgments led to the landmark resolution of three Supreme Court chambers of 23 January 2020, following the motion of the First President of the Supreme Court. An English translation of this resolution, including the full grounds, is expected in a few days.
